Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is the birth anniversary of the famous Indian Guru and scholar Adi Shankara. Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti is seen on Panchami Tithi in the middle of the Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month. This year, the day will be celebrated on 9th May 2019.
Adi Shankara set up the Advaita School of reasoning to make people aware of the ideas behind Aatma, Brahman, Vairagya and Moksha. He even composed critiques on all the Vedas, Upanishads and itihasas.
Shankara travelled across the world to grow his philosophy through discussions and debates with other thinkers. He demonstrated the importance of monastic life as described in the Upanishads and Brahma Sutra. He founded four matches, that is, the monasteries, which helped in the historical development, re-establishment and spread of Advaita Vedanta. Adi Shankara is believed to be the organiser of the Dashanami monastic order.
Adi Shankara, Madhava and Ramanuja were the three great masters who actively worked for the revival of Hinduism. They gave philosophical theories that are still followed by their followers. Adi Shankara is the most important figure in the history of Hindu Philosophy.
