Bajaj Chetak is ready to come back in India, with Chetak as the fist electric two-wheeler to be introduced by a mainstream manufacturer in India. Instead of the combustion engine, Bajaj has announced its entry with the electric scooter. So, let us have a quick glance over the price and specifications:
The new Bajaj Chetak Scooter is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 90,000 and Rs. 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It is equipped with a 4Kw electric motor, further its IP67- rated lithium-ion battery has a 3year/ 50,000 Km warranty. The battery can be fully charged in 5 hours and upto 25 percent in an hour through a 5-15 amp electrical outlet.
Coming towards the range of the scooter, here you will get the choice to chose to ride either in Eco-mode or Sport mode. In Eco-mode, the claimed range of the electric scooter is 95Km while it drops down to 85Km in the Sport mode. The new Chetak has got a steel frame along with a sheet metal body. It bears a single-sided tubular suspension at the front and a mono-shock at the rear along with a single-sided cast aluminum swingarm. It is fitted with 12- inch alloy wheels and is provided with front disc break and rear drum breaks for the braking system of the scooter, moreover, it can be availed in the regenerative braking system as well.
Moving towards the popular eye-catching feature, it has rear sequential LED blinkers, its digital instrument console is adorned with satin chrome bezel while the LED headlamp is surrounded by horseshoe-shaped DRL. The console displays vehicle information with clarity, further it has smartphone connectivity, an instrument panel operated by a feather touch switchgear present on the handlebar and a Bajaj Chetak mobile app that gives out all the details battery range, mobile history, etc.
Moving towards the availability of the vehicle, the Bajaj Chetak may go on sale in Pune, Bengaluru and other markets initially through KTM dealership. The KTM dealer network is more premium, and is, therefore, more fitting for the premium positioning. In effect, the KTM showrooms will offer a better experience than what Bajaj showrooms can currently offer, while the existing Bajaj showrooms will gradually be upgraded. Bajaj Auto India had been off the radar as far as scooters were concerned but the company has now given stubble hints that it will be in the race again.
